Creator, or Parent?

It seems that there are as many concepts of God as there are people.  Just who is this all powerful Spirit, Being or Intelligence that is the architect and engineer of all that exists?

I have narrowed the God Concept to 2 main ideas.  Parent or Creator

The Parent:

This is the most prevalent idea of God in Western Judaeo/Christian/Islamic civilization.  Since we all have or had a mother and a father, it is only natural that we should internalize God as our heavenly parent.  Like our own parents, God gave us life by creating all that exists, including Mom and Dad.

This parent God not only created us but acts as our Heavenly parent; punishing us when we are bad or “sin” and rewarding us when we are good.

Often our own parents acted as judge, jury and jailer, (I must have served 2 years total during my childhood and adolescence “on punishment”).  If God puts us on “punishment” its not a couple of weeks, its for all eternity.

Whew, talk about tough love!  But that’s not all the “Parent God” does for us. He/ She also helps plan our life and direct our path, rather like having a perpetual mother-in-law or ethnic Mama (Jewish, Italian, Armenian, Greek, Irish)

People who believe in the “Parent God” often ask:”What is God’s Plan for Me” as if we came with a life road map at birth.  This can even extend to buying a car or house; getting married, having a child, taking a new job or moving to another city. Any salesman can tell you of customers who would not decide on a home or car unless “it was God’s Plan”.

I often wondered how God could possibly have time to deal with the minutiae of 10 billion people and that is just our one little planet out of millions more in the Universe!

Belief in this Parent God is called Theism.

The Creator

My personal favorite God is the Creator God, the God of the 17th and 18th Century Enlightenment.  This is the historical period when fear based belief and the old medieval ideas gave way to science and the philosophy of Rousseau, Locke and Montesquieu.  This is the God of our Founding Fathers, including Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin and virtually every major player in the founding of our nation.  This idea of God is called Deism, the idea that God is the Creator of all that exists but rules by natural laws, both physical and spiritual.

God’s gifts to us are life and what Deists call “Providence”, meaning that God has provided all that is needful for humanity to thrive and be successful on this Earth.  To a Deist, God is not a parent or nanny but a Creator and Law Giver.

Does this seem a bit cold and detached compared to the Parent God?  There is no denying that if you want Big Daddy or Mommy in the Sky, you will not find them in a Deistic Universe.  This Creator Deist God does not get involved in your love life, what car you drive or where you live.  The only “plan” that the Deistic God has for you is what you think, speak and choose.  YOU are the author of the “plan”.

A Deistic God has endowed his creations with all they need to live happy lives and succeed.  It is their choice, however, to live their lives wisely and well or foolishly and badly.  By our thoughts, words and choices WE are the authors of our lives. The Book of Life that we write is neither right or wrong to a Deist… it just IS.  The Law returns measure for measure back to us exactly what we have thought, done and believed.

A Deistic God does not punish or reward. Your life and after life is created by your thought, word and deed. Law gives back what you put out so no Divine intervention is necessary.  No need for reward, for virtue is its own reward, no need for punishment for we do a fine job of punishing ourselves .

Before you conclude that the Deistic God is just a Divine Clock Winder who began the Universe and all that is in it and then left us alone, you should know that this concept of God is open 24/7 for consultation and inspiration.  It will encourage you, love you, and inspire you you at every turn of your life….If you are open and listen to the voice within, which is the presence of the Divine in you.

The Deistic God is the best friend you could ever have for he/she never rewards or punishes, he or she merely is and always will be.

This is a God that you can talk to and get answers; clear answers that human beings can use and follow.  Yes, you can talk to God for God is not up in Heaven, or down in Hell.  No these places are merely constructs of the human mind and have nothing to do with God.

God is everywhere present at all times, including in you and I and every person on this planet and many more beyond our imagination.  God lives and moves and has it being in you and I and in every living thing.  We swim in God as a fish swims in the sea but we persist in believing that God is a stern and distant parent, beyond reach and reason.

Religious Science is very God centered but ours is the Deistic concept of Emerson, Descartes,  Thoreau,  Swedenborg, Quimby and the philosophers of the Enlightenment.

If he were alive today George Washington would be a Religious Scientist.

There is no mystery to God, He or She is as close as a prayer and stands ready to give you strength when it all seems hopeless, inspire you when all roads seemed closed to you and warm your soul with Her Eternal, Unconditional Love. If you want a faith and philosophy that warms your heart and soul and still makes sense in this 21st Century then log on to CSL.ORG  and see if Religious Science just might be the answer you have longed to find.  You will be most welcome!

And So It Is

The Art and Science of Swimming in God

It is my belief that the anthology that we call the Holy Bible ( literally Sacred Book) is a Great Light to humankind for it is a book of spiritual wisdom and truth.  The New Testament, in particular is a good rule and guide for a life well lived as it teaches much wisdom, love, tolerance and philosophy by means of parable and allegory.

So it is with with Acts 17:28…For we live and move and have our being within the great body of God.  We live in Him.

What does this mean?  Does it mean that we are surrounded by God, that we swim in God as a fish swims in the ocean?

Could it be that we have gotten it wrong for nearly 2,000 years?  Traditional Old Time Christianity teaches that God, Angels, and the Heavenly Host live far above in a place called Heaven or Paradise.  We are weak worms of the dust and of little account but can be redeemed and given eternal life if, and only if, we take the man Jesus as our Lord and Savior.

In my book, the Death of Religion and the Dawn of Spirituality, I call this central idea of Christianity the longest running Magic Show in history.  It is a complete contradiction of Acts 17:28.

God is not an unreachable presence in the Cosmos but is everywhere present, all around us, above us, below us, in us and of us. In fact, we do swim in God as a fish swims in the ocean.  We do not become God as the fish does not become the ocean, but it is the medium in which we have our being and our life.

God is within every cell in our body.  God surrounds us with its presence in the form of our aura.  God lives in our Mind, Heart and Spirit.  In fact, the old New Thought saying: There is no spot where God is not is exactly true.

Understanding that God is the medium in which we exist can free our magnificent power, will and intelligence which is the key to creating exactly the life we want and need.  Life then becomes the Art and Science of Swimming in God.

How good a God Swimmer are you?  Do you allow yourself to despair when outside events don’t go your way (like elections or love affairs or your job)? Do you feel worthless and never seem to fit in anywhere?  These are symptoms of a person needing God swimming lessons!

If you develop the Sacred Senses that you were born with to the point that you can feel the warm balm of the ocean of God caressing your Body, Mind and Spirit every moment of your life, then you are a Master Swimmer in God. In this state of being there is nothing that you cannot do with proper use of the Law.

The Art is in the feeling of the God presence each and every moment, in your waking, sleeping, going and coming.   The Science is in the mastery of the Law; the great creative engine of God that we are licensed to use.  Used properly and with right intent and purpose, the Law never fails.

If there is a failure in your Law Work it is due to what my wife calls: operator error.

We really do live and move and have our being within the great Body of God.  If God is Truly all there is and we are here then we are part and parcel of God.  We really do swim in God as a fish swims in the ocean.

For many years I could not feel God enveloping me as the warm ocean envelops the swimmer. There have been times when my heart was broken, my ego shattered, my self esteem dragging and my life seemed pointless.  After practicing serial monogamy for far too long until Lady Susan graced my life 18 years ago and healed my heart and enriched my mind, there were too, many times when God felt very far away from Dore’.  I was washed up on the shore of despair until my dear wife came into my life.

I am now a swimCSL.ORGmer in the Ocean of God.  I know God surrounds me and is within me and I am learning new lessons each day to become a Master Swimmer in the Ocean of God.  Won’t you join me?

Come on in…..The water’s fine!

The Healing of America (Part 1 of 2)

This has been a uniquely disturbing US Presidential election. As I write this post, only 3 weeks are left until Election Day, November 7th. Both Republicans, Democrats and Independents are weary of this most uncivil and unseemly campaign; unprecedented in modern American history.

Yes there were elections in the 1820’s and 30’s so toxic and mean that the shame and false accusations heaped upon Andrew Jackson’s wife caused her to die of a broken heart.  It was a “no holds barred” type of politics in the first 50 years of our Republic and I am very saddened to see us descend to this level again in the supposedly enlightened 21st Century.

Whatever your politics or preferences I am sure that you would agree that our democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere of distrust, thuggery and mean spirited hate speech.  We heard just yesterday a candidate sowing the seeds of conspiracy and illegitimacy of our democratic process.  Unchecked, this could destroy our very soul and nation.  This is the atmosphere that destroyed the world’s first democracy, Athens.

What has happened to “morning in America”?  Where have “hope and change” gone, just 8 years after thrilling and empowering much of the nation?

Every problem has a spiritual solution and this time of nastiness and recrimination can be solved only by good will; brother and sisterhood and a large dose of empathy.  There also must be a few structural changes in our Election process.  (Parties must nominate as they did formerly, then the people elect)  Lest you think I am suggesting that we all hold hands and sing Kum Ba Ya around the campfire I would say that “it wouldn’t hurt” but it is not the medicine that our body politic and our national consciousness needs.

America has lost faith in its own mythology.  A people’s myths are the bedrock of their culture.  We sometimes think of a myth as something false.  That is often untrue.  A myth is a long held cultural tradition, usually based on truth.  Myths are the ideals upon which a nation is built.

What are America’s basic myths and why have so many forsaken them in the last decade?

The central idea of America is the American Dream:  This is the heart and soul of America.  If The Dream dies our nation dies a slow death from the inside out.  However the American Dream is not the American Promise.

Nothing is promised in a free society but equal protection of the laws and due process.  The American Dream simply means that anyone from anywhere is free to thrive or fail to the limits of their talent, hard work and character.  We are now all measured primarily by our talent, drive, character and the fruits of our labor.

There are no longer blue bloods, no privileged class, racial barriers and no nobility or royalty.  Every one of us, if we have the will and the talent and the guts, can become a Warren Buffet or a Colin Powell.

We can all, if we have the athleticism and put in the years of hard work, become a super star athlete no matter if we came from Beverly Hills or South Central LA, from Coral Gables or Liberty City.

Somehow the American Dream has become in the minds of many the American Guarantee.  Nothing is guaranteed in life, here or anywhere else.  To achieve the American dream you must have a thirst for it, a hunger for it that cannot be satisfied until it is achieved.  You have to sacrifice, persevere when the dark hours come and never, never give up.  Most importantly, you have to make wise choices every step of the way.

Particularly in America you must write the story of your life and produce the movie version with every thought, word and choice. You are solely responsible for the outcome.

What causes the American dream to go off the rails for so many?  Many, many people kill their American Dream with a rebellious spirit.  “I am sick and tired of school, no college for me!”  Poor choices at an early age can blight a life.

In 21st Century America, unless you invent something magnificent, or write the great American Novel,  you have just consigned yourself to a life in the working class, working long hours for an hourly wage.  One bad decision not quickly corrected is all it takes to turn the American Dream into paradise lost.

But weren’t things easier in the 50’s?

Weren’t we the greatest nation in the world in the 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s? What happened?  Wasn’t this the Golden Age of America?  It seemed that way to some but only if you were straight, White and Gentile and preferably Protestant.

Jim Crow was in its heyday and religious and ethnic bigotry was a way of life.  There were ethnic slurs for almost any nationality or ethnicity and they were used in daily conversation. Whole neighborhoods would move out if one person of color or unacceptable ethnicity moved in!  Seems unreal today but that was the United States of my childhood.  Not so golden for much of the population, was it?

What about those great jobs?  The days of walking down the street of your industrial Mid-Western or New England town with nothing but a high school diploma and getting that high paid union job at the mill or factory, complete with  fat pension and 100% health coverage, are long gone and they are not coming back.

This way of life was an aberration caused by World War 2.  It never happened before and will not happen the same way again.

Immediately after the end of World War 2 the United States became the most powerful nation in the world and “the American Century” began.  Why and how did this happen?

We emerged from the war with the homeland totally unscathed; our infrastructure, cities and industry emerged from the war as the most modern in the world.  We became the industrial giant of the entire world.

Japan, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Russia and to a large extent the UK had been reduced to rubble by the war.  We had by far the most powerful military in the world armed with the most terrible weapon ever developed.   Hiroshima and Nagasaki were stark reminders of this.

Do you know that post War Great Britain, with their cities in ruins and their economy shattered, had very stringent rationing of fuel, food and clothes well into the 1950’s.  At the same time Americans went on a buying spree unlike any in our history, buying appliances, automobiles and homes, all of which were unavailable during the War.

In 1946, ten million G.I.’s came home in a matter of months, sending women out of the factories and back to home and children. Rosie the Riveter may have built the planes, ships and weapons that won the war but she was fired in mass to make room for the men.

Women, once freed from the nursery and the kitchen by the critical need for workers during the war, now saw their freedom and independence abruptly ended and did not like it one bit.  Thus the seeds of feminism were born and not a moment too soon!

My own Mother was one of the first to sign up for gender equality.  She became one of the first females to become a  licensed Real Estate Broker in the State of California.  Seems strange today but real estate was virtually an all male profession prior to the 50’s.

This American monopoly of prosperity and power could not last.  It was built on the misfortune of others.

When the rest of the world recovered and rebuilt their industries and infrastructure we began to have competition in industry and in trade.  A rising tide does lift all boats and the perennially poor nations such as China, India, Malaysia, Korea and war torn Japan began to become industrial powerhouses and soon became First World nations, rather than recipients of our hand-outs.

Sometimes Americans tend to see the world as a zero sum game.  If others advance and prosper; we sometimes feel diminished.  We should be thrilled that the world is getting richer every day.  We should give thanks to whatever Deity we honor that more and more children go to bed on a full stomach, go to school and have hope for a better life  than ever before in human history!

We should celebrate the advances of our brothers and sisters around the globe, but today we envy them.   Hope has been replaced by fear and anger.

Charity and love has been replaced in too many hearts with feelings of loss, helplessness and anger. Only a renewal of the Spirit can remove this stain on our national consciousness and return us to the big-hearted, kind and charitable people that once fed the world, healed the sick and led the way to hope and freedom.

Is there room only for The United States of America in the World Prosperity Club?  Let’s spread the Gospel of Prosperity as ardently as we do the Gospel of Democracy?

Time to relight that Shining City on the Hill; time to rekindle the American Dream and then export it to the world.

Next post: My take on the solutions.

Be well, speak well and think well, until we are together again

God and “New Thought”

New Thought is a term given to the religious philosophy born in the 1790’s that came to full fruition in the 19th Century with the work of Phineas Quimby, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mary Baker Eddy , Nona Brooks , Emma Curtis Hopkins, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, the Founders of Unity and with the great work of Dr. Ernest Holmes in the early 20th Century; the Founder of Religious Science (The Science of Mind); Neville Goddard and many, many others.

From this flowering of New Thought arose the Christian Science movement, the Church of Divine Science, The Unity Church of Practical Christianity and the Church of Religious Science, founded by Ernest Holmes (now called the Centers for Spiritual Living)

What do these New Thought denominations have in common?  Perhaps the hallmark of New Thought is a Deistic view of the Divine.  God is seen as Divine Mind, Divine Intelligence, the Great Architect, First Cause or The Ground of all Being.  God is not your meddling mother in law, does not plan every detail of your life, or chart your future in some great book in the heavens.

No, God is the Creator of all that exists on this world and all others.  God is the author of the Big Bang, the creator of natural and spiritual law and the thinker behind all that is.  Call God the Great I AM as Moses was told in Sinai.

God’s language is mathematics, It’s nature is love and the joy of creation for creation’s sake.  God creates out of love from its own substance everything that exists including you and I.  Therefore every human being is a living expression of this Godhead.

God is not up there or over there or down here.  God is everywhere present…..all at the same instant.  As the Bible puts it so well:  We live and move and have our being within the great body of God, much as a fish swims in the ocean but is not part of the ocean.

Modern Christianity conceives God as a meddling parent and humanity as a weak worm of the dust.  New Thought conceives God as a loving creator, open 24/7 for consultation and inspiration but not the ruler of our lives.  We lead a life, we do not follow it.  We are the motive force of our lives; responsible for every thought, every word and choice.  No blame but responsibility.

We are empowered by this philosophy and this symbiotic relationship between God and humanity.  We are created by God and given imagination, will and intellect and in return God experiences the lives of its creation.  If we are the authors of our lives then we may re-write our story any time that we can muster the will, the courage and the intelligence to do so.  No victims here in New Thought.  Rather, we are magnificent creations of the Architect of the Universe.

Stay Tuned!

Next time we shall discuss the role of The Law, that gift of God that enables humanity to create whatever we can conceive.

Until we are together again, be well, be happy and listen to your inner voice, its God calling!

The True Christian according to Rev. Dore’

What is a “True Christian”?   My mind and heart tells me that a true Christian is a person who does their very best day by day to live the basic teachings of Christ Jesus.  Will he or she be perfect at walking in the “shoes of the Master”?  I would think not; Jesus did not walk His talk 100% of the time.

His judging and violence toward the money changers and High Priests in the Temple are not examples of walking the path of tolerance, love and peace.  His all too human fear in the Garden is another example of the faults and flaws in the human being that was Jesus of Nazareth.  His very harsh berating of his mother when she called him home was another example of his very real human temper. He was a man, not a God.

If Jesus could not embody emotional or spiritual perfection, how can we then expect ourselves to do so?   We may strive to get as close as we can; but we are all human.

Once lesson we all need to learn is to be more forgiving of our selves and our fellow human beings.

The True Christian lives each day understanding that judgement of your fellow human is judgement of yourself for we are all one in God and in fact.  There is no place for judgement and condemnation, gossip or innuendo in the life of a True Christian.  A True Christian is tolerant and loving but not necessarily approving of behavior that hurts, divides and degrades.  It is our right to associate with people pleasing to us but it is not our place to judge anyone.

The True Christian knows that we are One with the infinite Mind that is God, therefore each of us, being created by that Mind, are literally Brothers and Sisters in the truest sense.  The True Christian forgives even the most grievous offence and answers it with love.  Love and hate cannot exist in the same time and space and the True Christian knows this and lives it.

The True Christian knows that to resist a condition or an act is to invite it to stay.   He or She knows that when we are against something, when we protest something, march against something we are empowering the very thing we seek to destroy.   The True Christian is for all that is Good, noble, loving and joyous and against nothing.

Mother Theresa replied to an anti-war protester who asked her to head a march against War:  “I will lead a march for peace but will be against nothing.”

The True Christian cares nothing for dogma or liturgy, form and ceremony but cares deeply for his or her fellow human being.  The True Christian knows that love is the essence of God and of a True Christian.

The True Christian will turn both cheeks and offer both arms and legs to an attacker rather than strike back; for to do so begins a circle of blood and recrimination that can last for generations, rather like the Hatfields and McCoys of Southern Lore.  An eye for an eye always leaves the world blind and toothless.  There is no end, there is never a winner in this zero sum game.

A True Christian cares only for the lessons of the Christ, He or She is not defined by or believes in the pagan idea of blood sacrifice or the ancient Sumerian idea of “sin debt” that must be repaid in blood.  This idea is a nightmare of Paul’s that has no place in the True Christianity of the 21st Century.

The True Christian honors all humanity for all of us are the living expressions of God, the Architect of the Universe.  The True Christian would never disparage any man or woman for their gender, sexual preference,  their color, or their cultural heritage.

Likewise the True Christian knows that God is in each and every human born.  The True Christian knows that to look in the eyes of another man, woman, boy or girl is to look into the eyes of God.

God is all there is and is everywhere present all at the same time, every second of life itself.  There truly is “no spot where God is not”.

The True Christian never places himself above any other human, no matter what their religion or faith.  The True Christian knows that finding God is a bit like the center of town.  You can approach God from any direction, with any religion and you will find God right in the Center.  All those who truly seek God will find God.

The great thread of Truth that runs through every major religion when stripped of ceremony, dogma and do’s and don’ts is that there is a Creator of all that exists, a Divine Mind, a Great Soul, a Ground of Being, a Great Architect; call it what you will. It is the Great I AM or all that is.

This is what we believe as Religious Scientists and this is what we work toward in our Global Vision:  One world united in peace, freedom, prosperity, love and happiness.

Spirituality and Religion according to Rev. Dore’

speakers on!  click for audio version

We hear a lot of conversation about spirituality and religion these days.  Aren’t they the same thing just using different terms?  I say no!  They are as different as “Chalk and Cheese”, as my British friends would say.

Religion is an attempt by humanity to rationalize and codify the experience of the Divine that all humans are capable of.  My post a few months ago, “The Faith Chip”, discusses this human proclivity for religion and the Divine in more detail.  You will find it in the archives or podcasts section on the home page.

Religion can be a force for good when it serves as a moral floor under a culture and as a device for deepening thought and bringing meaning to life; making every day a sacred experience.  This is noble and good.  We understand that we must have some code of morality in any human culture; else we may revert quickly to barbarism.  Religion is effective at providing this code because there are rewards for adherence to the code and sanctions for breaking it.

Too often religion (Buddhism is an exception) ends up believing that its revelations of the Divine are the only right and true ones.  The result is the “my God is bigger and better than your God” syndrome.  Religion often insists that its founder, guru or saint had the one true revelation sent special delivery straight from the mouth of God.  (Christianity and Islam, in particular, suffer from this attitude of  exceptionalism).

When a God-revealed religion believes that it should be the only interpretation of The Divine it may become a scourge rather than a boon to humankind.  I have often likened religion to ice cream because most of us like it, it tastes wonderful but too much can make us very sick.  Like ice cream there are many, many flavors and it is all a matter of personal taste.  Find the spiritual experience that resonates with your unique heart, mind and soul.  That is the one for you.  Arguing about religion is about like arguing the merits of butter pecan over rocky road!  Its good if you like that flavor and not so good if you don’t.

There is no “one size fits all” where God and religion is concerned.  What would the world be like with only vanilla ice cream?  Boring and stale!  Before long ice cream would cease to exist because it would no longer satisfy.  So it is with religion.

It has been said that to kill a religion simply make it the State Church and you will kill it in 3 to 4 generations.  The Anglican Church is a perfect case in point.  It is the established by law Church of England and as a result England is perhaps the most secular country I have ever experienced.  To even mention God in public is to invite stares and dark looks!

Religion that is institutionalized and mandated is no religion at all.  Religion and spirituality are matters of the heart and soul.  They are matters of choice at the deepest emotional level and cannot be mandated by the State.

Each human vibrates to his or her own frequency so there can never be one religion for all.  We have needs that rise from deep in our emotional and psychological makeup that must be fulfilled and many use religion to fill the “hole” in their spirit and soul.  Who and what we are usually leads us to the religion that best suits our energetic signature.

Stern, judgmental people are attracted to stern, judgmental religions such as Calvinism in Christianity and Wahabism in Islam.

Live and let live, loving people are attracted to a positive Jesus centered Christianity that emphasizes the teaching of love and tolerance.  Many are attracted to B’hai or Buddhism for the same reason.   Religion is an expression of who we are from the inside out.  You need only look at the faith that fulfills a person and you have a snapshot of the personality of this person.

I am sure that is why God had nothing to do with establishing religions.  He or She wrote no Scriptures, Bibles or Korans.  These are the works of human beings having a deep religious experience.  That experience was filtered through their minds, hearts, culture and thought.  Religion is man made but Love is Divine; indeed its the essence of God.

If God made religion He or She would have written one book and made one religion for all humankind.  However one size fits all does not square with God’s gift of free will.  One religion would have negated our God- given gift of choice.  We are always at choice every moment of our lives.

Without free will we would be automatons all marching to one tune; thereby defeating the entire purpose of humanity.  We are here as living, breathing expressions of the Godhead, providing a physical expression of life for the Infinite Mind of God.  God is fulfilled though us and we through Her.

This is why Religious Scientists say that we are co-creators of our life experience.  We use the God given power of the physical, mental and spiritual faculties that we were given; conversely by the exercise of that power God can therefore experience the physical world of His or Her creations.

Imagine the thrill of God experiencing the taste of a ripe peach or the explosive ecstasy of a human orgasm!  God gives us sentience, imagination and life and we give God a very good time!

This view of the Divine is why I am a Religious Scientist.  I am a part and parcel of God, there is no separation.  I am God expressing as I write this post.  I am God expressing when I go to work.  I am God expressing when I kiss my dear wife or hold one of my grandchildren.  When you understand who you are….a living expression of God… even taking out the trash as I did an hour ago is a spiritual act.

Religion is the rules, myths and legends about God . Spirituality is God in each of us and God in action in the world working through us. Religion is parochial while Spirituality is universal.

Religion tends to separate humanity into often warring camps, each sure that its flavor of religion is correct and therefore the only true one.  Spirituality unites all humanity in the knowledge that there is a power greater than us, a Creator Spirit that is the ground of all being, the Great I Am, the Alpha and the Omega that it is in us and we in it.  Oneness then becomes a vibrant reality rather than a mere theological concept.

We are all one regardless what flavor of the “ice cream for the soul” we prefer.

Until we are together again, this is Rev. Dore’ knowing perfection in you and in your life.

A Sure Fire Fix for the Potholes in the Path of Your Life!

Is your life perfect?  Just exactly the way you have always dreamed that it would be?   Not so much?  Well, almost all of us have areas of our life that could use some improvement.  Perhaps its prosperity or maybe health.  Stress, worry and inner turmoil may be the problem which brings physical problems with it.

Perhaps you feel unloved and lonely and long for someone to love and understand you as a person.  You just want someone to “get you”.  What to do? How can we fix our lives quickly and painlessly in just a matter of days?

Ready?  Here is the sure fire fix for all that ails any human life.

Take responsibility for your life!  Yes, its that simple.  Here are the 3 steps to reclaiming, repairing and retooling your life.

1. Understand that blame and fault are not the same as responsibility.  You are not to blame for the shape your life is in but you are responsible!  Get over the blame game.

2. Be aware that not one person on Earth has been present every second of your life but YOU!  Therefore you are the driving wheel, the motive force of your life.  You thought the thoughts, spoke the cursing or the blessing each morning as you arose or before you went to sleep in the evening.  You either saw the good or complained endlessly of the bad.  What you think and speak is what you experience. What are we all but our thoughts, words and choices?

3. If you can honestly say that I wrote this novel, I produced and directed this movie that I call my life then you have just set yourself free.  Free at last, good God Almighty you are Free At Last.  You see, if you did it then you can change it because the ONLY person on this Earth that you can really control is YOU!

As Paul put it so well:  Think and speak only of things of good report. Thoughts are things and they are the building blocks of the Universe and of your life.  Nothing ever was made except by the thought and the Word.  God made the entire Universe by means of His thought and His Word.  As above, so below, which means that things here on Earth work by the same principles as they do in the Cosmos. You create your entire life by your thoughts and your words which create your choices and actions.

If you believe that your troubles and sorrow are the results of others then you are helpless because you can not really ever control any other being but you. With this belief that life happens to you, you live as a constant victim.  It is like spending your life in an Emergency Room lurching from crisis to crisis; powerless and depending on someone to fix you.

But if you created, promoted or allowed the mess and disarray to come into your life, then you can think a new thought and speak a new word of happiness, health, plenty and joy.  Watch your life change before your eyes!  You happen to life!  Your life is a mirror of you!

Your outer world is just a perfect mirror or reflection of what is in your mind, heart and soul.  The outer mirrors the inner you.  Change the inner and the outer must change correspondingly.  This idea is the root principle of Religious Science and the teaching of the Science of Mind.

You can heal your body with your mind and heart.  You can heal your finances with your mind and heart.  You can heal your marriage with your mind and heart.  You can heal your self esteem with your mind and heart.  You are the Doctor of your Life.   Ministers like me can teach you the techniques but you must do the work.

Nothing in your life changes until you do!  All true change is from the inside out.

This is basic stuff but it cannot be repeated often enough.  Throw off the chains of victim hood co-dependence and guilt and take charge of the most precious gift God has given you…….Your life!

Until we are together again, walk in the Light, Live in the Love and set yourself free by becoming the Master of your Life.

Turning The Page

Every year on January 1st many millions of people around the world look forward to the New Year and celebrate a new start in life;  a chance for a “do-over”.  We all start fresh, the score is 0-0 and we are filled with hope.

Many of us make New Year’s Resolutions and are sincere in sticking to them….for about 3 days on average!   Then too often we fall back into the old thinking and the old habits and nothing really changes in our lives.  Why is it so hard to change our lives?

Perhaps its because we are trying to change something outside of us called “our life”.  Life is lived within our own minds!  It does not exist except in our thinking, speaking and the choices we make. To change our life we must change our minds at a basic subconscious level and thus change how we think, speak and believe. No inner change, no life change.  Unless you change you it is just the same old same old!

Our subconscious or subjective mind is the seedbed of our reality and our life.  It is like a vast field of consciousness that influences and impels us to think, speak and act in certain ways.  Our parents, our genetic makeup to a small extent, our childhood, teachers and friends all planted seeds in the garden of our subjective mind that creates our core beliefs, our likes, dislikes, prejudices and biases and our attitudes about life, money, sex, religion, work, other people and love.

We have the power to accept or reject any and all of this programming if we have the will and the courage to do so.  How can we do this?

We change our subjective mind with our objective mind, that part of our mental makeup that we call our conscious mind.  This is where change your thinking and change your life comes in. As Paul told us: ‘think and speak only of things of good report’.  Your conscious thoughts reprogram your subconscious, indeed they are the plow that tills the soil of your subjective or subconscious.

To begin to build a new Life this January 1st, 2016 you must forget the resolutions; they are only promises you will never keep.  Instead, change your mind from the outside in by thinking about what you will allow in your life, what you deserve to have in your life and what can you believe as true about your life.  Can you have a clear and real picture of the new life that you will live beginning right now?  If not, you will never experience it.  You must see it before you can have it!

You are the programmer of the greatest computer in existence….the human mind, your mind.  Garbage in garbage out is an old IT saying.  Your job is to stop putting negative, fear based garbage into your subconscious and then watch the transformation of your life.  If you are writing a tragedy, change to a comedy or a success story. You are the motive force of your life, the driving wheel,  the author and editor in chief of your novel.

Want a new life?  You will have it the moment you change you and that only happens in your mind.  No one, not even God can do the job for you.

Many of us dream, think, affirm, pray and still never seem to see the changes in their lives that we all so desperately desire.

Why?  Because, as the great mystic Neville said: too many of us are in a state of constant construction but delayed occupancy!  Yes, we build our lives in our mind with visualization, prayer, meditation, but then we neglect to make it real by guts, willpower and intelligence.  We need to “move our feet” and take action to bring our desires into our home, our bank account and our life.

Religious Scientists don’t believe in magic, we believe in creative thought followed by directed and intelligent action.  This January 1st, begin the New Year with new thoughts only of things that you will allow in your life and the desires of your heart.  Begin the New Year speaking only of things that are good, loving and fine.  Plant roses in your mental garden and let the weeds starve from neglect.

Turn the Page!

May 2016 be the most wonderful year in your life and may this be the year that you move into your dream and live it!

The Greatest Story Never Told Part 2

It has been said that when we deified the man Jesus, we lost the Christ

It’s the Christmas Season and billions of people all over the globe are getting ready to celebrate Jesus of Nazareth’s birthday.  Presents, family gatherings, candle lighting services at church; the Christmas Story of the baby Jesus in the manger, the Virgin Mary, the 3 wise men and the shepherds all gathered to celebrate the birth of the Son of God.   Its a great story, a major part of the culture of Western Civilization.  But is the birthday of a man the real point of Christmas?

Did the Greatest Story Ever Told even happen?  Almost certainly not, according to the foremost historians and Biblical Scholars using what we have learned from archaeology, modern carbon dating and the 135 new Gospels that have been found and translated.  The story we love is a delightful legend.

What is the real magnificence of Christmas and why is it the most wonderful celebration of Love and Light on Earth?   Continue reading The Greatest Story Never Told Part 2

The Eternal Thread

Please click on the link below for audio version

There is an eternal thread of truth that is found in all the great religions in the world.  To find this common thread we must set aside dress codes, dogma and ceremony and get down to the basics; the nub of the matter of God, humanity and their relationship to each other.  Dress, ceremony and dogma are functions of human culture and perception and have little to do with God.

The first great idea of the Eternal Thread of Truth is that there is a power in this world and the Universe that is greater than us.  Our minds are not the only sentient minds in all creation.  We are not alone.  We did not create ourselves out of whole cloth.

The entire stage set of life was created by a Great Architect, a Divine Engineer, a First Cause that created the physical and spiritual laws that enable life and the Universe to exist.  Said plainly, there is Deity, a God of some form or fashion.  Since God is all there is, every human on this Earth or any other is literally my brother or sister and should be treated as such.

The second great idea of the Eternal Thread is that these Laws and this power is ours to share and to use.  We are not our creators but we are the inheritors of the power of our creators.  We use this power for Good with a Divine License for we are made of the same substance as all that exists.  We are living expressions of Deity, allowing Spirit to experience form.

The third great idea of this Eternal Thread is that the Law (both physical and spiritual) always functions just as it was designed and that no human is exempt from it.  While we are subject to physical laws (physics) and spiritual laws, (morality and ethics) we did not create the Law and cannot change it.

What we can do is to use and operate The Law for the benefit of ourselves and all humanity or we can wreak havoc and bring destruction by misuse of the Law. The Law is impartial, it works for the saint and the sinner alike;  it exacts its due both for good or for ill, depending on the operation of the Law by us.

The fourth great idea of this Eternal Thread is that we are always at choice, we are not puppets; we have Will and the right to use it.  We are responsible for the fruits of the exercise of our Will and will reap just what we have sown.

The fifth and most important idea of this Eternal Thread is that we are never alone.  There is help 24/7.   The Indwelling God is never is off duty or closed.  It will never impose itsself upon us but waits for us to ask, to seek, to knock on its door for help, for love, inspiration, courage and strength.   Those who seek to know God and will open a dialogue with the the Great I AM will have made the best and most enduring friendship imaginable.

It is this Eternal Thread of Truth that Religious Science (The Science of Mind) keeps alive in the hearts and minds of humanity.  Regardless of your religion or culture these truths are still the bedrock of human existence.  The Jew and the Muslim can use them.  The Catholic and the Protestant can celebrate them.  The Hindu and the Buddhist can glory in the Eternal Truth of God and yet celebrate Deity their own unique way.

There is really only one Truth.  God is all there is and that includes you and I.

Be peaceful, open your heart to lessons that your soul needs and have the ears to hear and eyes to see the lessons given you.
