When The Roof Falls In!

click on the link below for audio version (speakers on!)

Have you ever experienced a time in your life that felt like the roof fell in?  Did everything seem to change for the worse almost overnight?

We are great believers in luck or fortune; we hear it every day.  “I had a run of bad luck, I experienced a reversal of fortune, I just can’t catch a break”.  Is  my destiny out there somewhere beyond my control?  Does the Goddess Fortuna really spin her wheel; are you a helpless pawn of Fortune?

No, my friends.  That is the song of the lost and helpless and it brings nothing but sorrow, decay and waste.  Yes, life does seem to take turns for the worse one day and then look rosy the next.  Why?

Life is merely a mirror of our Mind.  What we think, speak and decide to do each day is the cause of our life experience.  As our thinking, our moods, our impulses and our actions ebb and flow from day to day they are planting the seeds of our future in the soil of our subconscious or subjective minds.   Our conscious thought programs the subconscious mind. Thus our reality is created.

When the roof falls in on your life you can always trace the cause to something that you did or neglected to do, perhaps years before, that has brought this about.  Everything that you think, speak and choose is cause.  Cause always produces effects, for good or ill.

The great secret to life is to learn to manage cause.  When you learn to do this you will automatically manage the effects or events of your life.  Always work on the level of cause and effect takes care of itself.

A simple example is hitting a baseball in the back yard with your son or daughter.  You notice that you are facing a large picture window 30 yards away but you hit the ball anyway.   Well, you hit a home run!  Problem is, the home run shattered the large picture window which will cost several hundred dollars to repair.  You caused this to happen, it was not Fortune, luck or fate.  You saw the window and decided to say, oh what the heck, and hit the ball anyway.  The cause was hitting the ball where you knew you could break a window and the effect was the broken window.

So it is with everything in your life.  To get off of this wheel, trace your problem or difficulty back to its genesis and then change the cause.  Think a new thought, speak a new word and get a new result.

In 2004 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which came as quite a shock and a surprise because I felt just great.  Thank God I had to take an insurance blood test which caught the problem in time.  But why prostate cancer?  What is cancer? It is not an infection or a contagious disease.  It is simply the body turning on itself and beginning to eat itself alive.  Scary isn’t it?

Medical science is beginning to understand what we in Religious Science have known for many years.  Where you are holding chronic anger, sorrow, fear, feelings of inferiority, that part of the body will be the one attacked by cancer.

Prostate for a man is the site of sexuality, procreation, elimination and intimate relationships.  For a woman it might be breasts or the cervical area.  I have been a serial monogamist in that I have been married more times than I care to share here today.  This caused me great pain, financial lack and feelings of inferiority  because I did not sustain a lifelong marriage as I was taught to do.  This sorrow, sadness and sense of loss was the cause of this cancer.

I am celebrating my 17th anniversary with my dear wife, Susan and earnestly pray that her sparkling blue eyes are the last thing I see on this Earth.  I apparently have learned a great lesson that will profit my soul in future experiences. Thus the cancer has never returned.  Yes, I was physically healed by a team of magnificent physicians whose hands and skill were the hands of God, but without my healing of my lifelong relationship issues, the cancer would have soon returned.

You and I are the ultimate creators and healers in our lives; using the power that the Creator has given.  We all have that power; every single person on this planet can do what I have done and billions before me have done.  It is your birthright but so few understand it or use it.

They look outside for the answers but they have been within you and I all of our lives.  This innate power is the Kingdom of Heaven.  As the Master said: “Look not up there or over there but look within”.

When the roof falls in in your world, go within!  There lies the answer and the cure.  From the effect, the wreckage, the rubble; trace back like pulling yarn on a sweater…. back, back, back until you see the cause.  Remove that cause and rebuild the roof of your life…. it is simple but not easy.  Get going right now!

God’s Update System according to Rev. Dore’

click on the link below to hear audio version

Even though we are only 3 months from 2016 as I write this, there is still a hot debate over evolution.  There are many millions, if not billions, who simply reject the entire idea that species evolve as conditions change and designs prove their efficacy or are rejected by natural selection. I know its true! I can see evolution’s work every day in my back yard!

When I look out my back windows or sit out on my Lanai overlooking our lovely pond surrounded with Maple trees (yes we do have maple trees) I can see our Florida Squirrels scampering up and down the trees doing what squirrels do everywhere.  Where Northern or Western Squirrels have big, magnificent bushy tails, their Florida cousins have skinny little tails that have more in common with a rat than the squirrels I knew in California.

Heat and humidity and bushy tails just don’t work in Florida so our squirrels have evolved with just the remnant of the usual tail.  Our crows don’t call the way every other crow calls.  Our birds have long legs for wading in water. Everything adapts to a new environment or dies.

Why the argument?  Well the Creationists believe that if evolution is fact, then God is negated.  Why?  Could not God, who creates all things, have created the system of evolution? What if evolution is God’s update system, rather like our periodic updates to our computers and tablets? Science and God are not antithetical but are rather complementary.

Let’s agree on one thing: if indeed there is a God, He or She is not stupid.  God certainly did not create the world as it is portrayed in the ancient Sumerian myth that we call Genesis.  But that does not mean that God does not exist.

I absolutely know that there is a First Cause, a Divine Mind, a Creator of all that exists because the Universe is just too well engineered and planned to be random.  DNA is one of the greatest engineering feats of all time.

Could we do that?  We can manipulate DNA but we can not design it. We, with all our science and all our technology, cannot even get to Mars much less the stars.  This will undoubtedly change as it becomes a priority and moves to the top to the human “to do” list.

We can manipulate that which is already created by the Creator but we do not and can not create.  God will still have a job and a place in our hearts as long as there are things to create and people to use them, enjoy them and cherish them.

Yes, Evolution is a fact and so is God.  God is the author of Evolution, it is Her update and regeneration system. Without it the Earth would by this time be a barren ball of dust, devoid of life.  Life, evolution and the Universe are not zero-sum games.

Think well, speak well and do well.  This is really the secret of life

It’s all in your Mind!

click on the audio link above (speakers on!)

Picture a psychiatrist’s couch with you reclining upon it while you attempt to describe your problems and emotional issues to your therapist.  After you finish the “50 minute hour” with the Doctor he looks at you and tells you that all your problems are really all in your mind.  He or She is absolutely right.  $225 later you may feel a bit better for having shared your feelings but the solution still lies with you.

It’s all in your mind!  Of course it is.  Your entire life is in your mind.  Your whole existence is in your mind.  Your body is just the mobile device to transport the mind.  You are your mind!   This is obvious to some but many more of us really believe that the body is who and what we are.  Even more of us confuse the brain with the mind. They most certainly are not the same.

The brain is an organ of the body, an electro-chemical organic processor and bodily interface for the mind.  So where is the mind?  Science currently is operating on the theory that it exists in every cell of our body.  In other words, the mind is the sum of our parts.  Metaphysics and theology tend to see the mind  like an aura or magnetic field around the body.  This is what cerulean photography captures when auras are photographed.

If you haven’t seen your aura yet, or don’t even know that you have one, get it photographed when the opportunity presents itself.  You will be amazed at what you can learn about yourself by understanding the energy that you project through the electro-magnetic  field that we call an aura.  Every human projects this energy every second of their lives.  This is the shadow of the human mind.

The Mind to me is the Divine Spark, the Divinity within each human.  It is that part that knows that it knows.  It is the self aware part of the human experience. It is the imagination which is unique to humanity; the part of us that has been called the proof of God’s existence.  It is what allows you and I to be able to escape the bonds of environment, the shackles of precedent, custom or the “way it has always been”.  If we can see it in our mind’s eye, we can create it in form. All thanks to our imagination; perhaps our greatest gift from the Creator.

Imagination is that part of us that can take a mental trip to stars and galaxies never before seen by humankind.  It is that part of the builder that sees the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge long before the first hammer rang or the first girder was welded in place.  It is that part of us that sees a world where character, not appearance, is the sole measure of a human.  Imagination is the part of us that sees every child safe, loved,  going to school, not one hungry and all humanity safe and happy.

Without the fears, ideas, dreams, plans that are “all in our mind” nothing ever comes into form in the “real world” of stuff and things.  Not one thing was ever created in the Cosmos or on Earth without first appearing in some sentient being’s mind.  In truth, all human life takes place in the mind, aided by the organic computer that we call the brain.

Your therapist was right, it is all in your mind but that does not mean that it isn’t real.  There is nothing more real that what is in your mind.  Your thoughts and emotions are the building blocks of your life!  In truth you are your Mind.   When we in Religious Science say that your mind is the Mind of God, your love is the Love of God, your life is the Life of God; this is what we mean:  We are all expressions of God, part and parcel of the great Divine Mind, the Universal Intelligence, the Great I Am which we call God. God and each of us are truly one.

If you can conceive it, believe it and see it already done, you can experience it.

Until we are together again…walk in Light and Love each and every day.

You Are Magnificent!

Click on link for audio version (speakers on!)

Did you know that you are magnificent?  Has anyone ever told you that?  If not, they should have done so when you were a child.  Even those judged least successful by their fellow humans are miraculous creations of the Great I AM that we nickname God.

God is perfect substance, perfect love, perfect Mind and from perfection can come only perfection.  Everything created by God is therefore perfect.

Well, Dore’ how in the world can you say that?  What about those born with serious birth defects or Down’s Syndrome or other debilitating conditions?

Perfect you say?  What, are you nuts Rev.?

I was told that I was nuts just yesterday but I did not believe a word of it.  People judge us according to their world view but since I know who and what I am and am quite comfortable in my own skin, I pay little attention to the madding crowd.

As Terry Cole Whittaker used to say:  “What you think of me is none of my business”.

You see, I know that I am a perfect creation of a perfect God; even though I was born with cerebral palsy, crooked eyes and other assorted challenges, including a big mouth.  Spiritual Mind Treatment cured the incurable and took care of all but a faint residue of the Cerebral Palsy and the hands of God working through the ophthalmic surgeons hands straitened the eyes.

I am still working on the big mouth!  My dear wife Susan believes its a hopeless cause!

If I can believe that I am a perfect expression of the Creator of all that exists….surely you can join me in that belief.

Perfection means very different things to the Creator than it does to his/her creations.  We tend to think of perfect as being without any flaw or blemish.  Most of us would say that nothing is perfect on this Earth and therefore nobody is perfect.  We hear that every day, don’t we?

Yes, and we would be so very wrong.  You see we think our lives into being and as a collective consciousness we create the conditions on this planet that we call our “world”.  Since we have such a bedrock belief in imperfection we get to experience it at every turn.

Nothing is ordained or written or fated.  We think, speak and choose the conditions of our lives and collectively of this planet.

Self loathing is the seed of our belief in imperfection and it is the number one cause of all discord, disease, war and even poverty.  From self loathing comes its cousin guilt which poisons our hearts, souls and bodies.

But wait!  All is not lost, I have the cure at my finger tips!  All this will end if we stop believing that we are damaged goods, bad seeds, rejects, God’s mistakes or whatever you say to yourself to poison your soul.

The word perfection does not mean “without flaw or blemish”.

Perfect means made exactly as it was designed to be made.  We are all designed by the Great Architect (my nickname for God) just as he/she intended because each of us was designed and created for a unique purpose and experience on this Earth that only we can fulfill.  No two people on this planet has exactly the same life because no two of us are exactly alike.

We are unique living expressions of God.

We were made this way by perfect Substance and Perfect Love and that makes us perfect.  Now, what we make of this perfection is totally up to us.  God draws up the plans, gathers the building materials and drops it all off at the job site.  What we build on that site is solely our responsibility and becomes our destiny.

Here is an exercise in logic:

If God is Perfect, God made you, you are perfect.  You cannot escape the logic of that syllogism.  So put away the tiny little violin, call off the “pity party” and claim your magnificence.  It is your birthright as a living expression of God.

The day you can love you as God loves you is the day that you will transform your life.

May the indwelling God and the Most High God, which are one and the same, dwell in your every thought, word and deed.

But We Have Always Done It This Way!

click on the link for audio version

But we’ve always done it this way!  How often have you heard this?  I hear it daily and it makes me crazy!  Why?  Because as Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds”.  Was he saying that people who are incapable of “thinking outside the box” are stupid or ignorant?  No, I believe that he was saying that they are prisoners of precedent; journeymen on the beaten path of life unable to deviate from the familiar, the safe and the comfortable.

If that is how one chooses to live that is their choice.  It might be a rather hum-drum life however, because the beaten path holds little adventure or drama. It’s safe but rather boring I should think.  It is also the death knell of societies and institutions.

The only real constant in the Universe is change.  As the Bible tells us, “as above, so below” which means that the laws the govern the Cosmos also govern life on Earth.  Evolution is the natural order of all things: living beings, ideas, mores, societies, institutions and civilizations.  Those who refuse to evolve die!

The Koala Bear is a fine example of a charming, cuddly little creature that shows no ability to change or evolve.  It spends its entire life in a Eucalyptus tree and eats only Eucalyptus leaves, even drawing its water from them.  When the “gum trees”, as the Aussies call them, die so will these cute little bear like rodents.  With climate change a certainty, change in all areas of life is no longer optional.

Humans are perhaps the only creatures on Earth not bound by precedent.  We don’t have to live in one place and eat one thing.  We don’t have to think the same thoughts as our ancestors, have the same beliefs, or follow the same outmoded moral code.  We don’t have to worship Deity the way our distant cousins 2015 yeas ago did.

We can write a new chapter, film a new movie, create a new way of life. Yes, change can be scary and disruptive and it’s no wonder that many of us are frightened by the lightening fast changes in our culture, our way of life and in our world.  Many of us succumb to the “Golden Age Syndrome” as we fixate on a time or place when things were idyllic and life was perfect.  We want to go back to an era that never existed, except in our mind’s eye.

There is an old saying that says: “you can’t go home again” and its true.  Oh, yes you can literally move back to the old neighborhood but its not the old neighborhood anymore is it? The houses have been torn down or been renovated; the people no longer look just like you, and it just doesn’t feel like the neighborhood of your youth.  I just experienced this feeling touring the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of my youth.  Dore’ was no longer at home there.

The 50’s are often cited as the “golden age” of America.  The G.I.’s came home by the millions in a matter of months in late 1945 and 1946 into a society suddenly thrust from a war footing to civilian life again.  Nothing was available during the war; cars, appliances, tires, fuel, meat, all sorts of consumer goods were rationed or not available.

If you had a pulse you had a job; every factory was being retooled for civilian production and most jobs were union jobs with high wages and lush benefits.  Post War America was a different world in which the USA was the only major industrial power never to feel the horrors and destruction of war, we were safe behind our oceans, we had “The Bomb” and were the masters of the world.

For some it was a golden age, but not so much if you were not of European descent.  Prejudice was rampant in the 50’s of my youth.  There were slur names for almost every nationality, even the White ones!  A Catholic marrying a Protestant….scandal!  A Jew moved in down the block or worse yet Hispanic or what we called Negros, when being polite!  Wow, you could watch the For Sale signs bloom like dandelions on the lawns.  Some Golden Age!  More like the Age of judgement, conformity and sameness.  And I grew up in Los Angeles; imagine life in New Orleans, Dallas or Atlanta in 1950!

You see, we just can’t stand still in this thing called life.  There was a wonderful little book called “Who Moved My Cheese?” which became required reading in Corporate America.  The lesson of this book is that if you are a mouse and the cheese moves, you best move to another supply of cheese or starve.  Those who cling to the past are doomed, in the final analysis.

Change is the natural order of things, it is the way the Great Architect renews and refreshes His/Her Creations.  Perhaps the way you always did it was not the best way.  Have a new thought, try a new way.  You just might surprise yourself and begin a whole new life full of joy, discovery and growth.

Until we are together again…..Remember, your life is the Life of God, your Love is the Love of God, your Mind is the Mind of God.

Why Are We Here?

Audio Version, click on the link above (speakers on!)

As a minister, I am often asked: “why am I here”?  “What’s my purpose?” This question suggests that we are all on “a mission from God” as Jake and Elwood Blues used to say.  Many people like to believe that each of us has a special role to play in this thing called life.

I believe that they are right but not necessarily in the way they may intend.  Yes, we have a vital purpose here on Earth as part of our never ending eternal journey of the soul.. a purpose no being can fulfill but us!

Jesus taught us that God is a spirit….do not look for Him here, there, or up there.  He is everywhere present all at the same time, in fact God is all that exists!  Once you accept that basic fact then our purpose becomes clearer.  Spirits may observe but not participate, rather like the characters in the great movie “City of Angels”.

Spirits cannot operate in a physical realm, they will never know the glory of an orgasm, the luscious sweet joy of the first bite of a peach, the feel of your little girl’s arms around your neck as she runs to greet you or the smile of your son when he catches the ball you tossed.

God loves us so much that he makes humanity out of the very substance of Itself. We really do live and move and have our being within the body of God.  We swim in God every moment of our lives as a fish swims in the sea.

Our mission on this Earth is to allow the Creator to experience the physical world of His/Her Creations.  We are physical expressions of God, the very creator of all that is.  You want purpose, that is a purpose beyond our imagination.

Remember, God is all there is so God never has a bad day!  It’s all good to the Life Force that creates all.   Our job is to be the best expression of God we can be, to  show the Creator a good time and at the same time live a useful, productive and joy filled life.  Whatever your heart and talent leads you to in life, do it to the best of your ability.  You really are on a mission from God and that mission is one of experiencing the very best life can offer.

The Perennial Philosophy

There is a thread of Truth that runs though all major religions and spiritual philosophies.  From the wisdom of Plato to the Mystery Schools of Egypt; the wonderful love, Light and wisdom of the Zoroastrianism of Persia to today’s Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism there is a common thread of Spiritual Law and Truth.

Once we strip away the dress codes, the rules for worship, the do’s and don’ts we can see that each religion comes to the same conclusions about life, God and humanity; couched in different language and custom to suit differing cultures and peoples.  The truth is that there is a Divine Mind, a First Cause that is the Creator.

Perhaps its a Life Force, perhaps a Great Soul or a Great Architect of the Universe but it is clear that something greater than the human mind engineered and designed this Universe and many others.  Did we engineer DNA, the pattern of a snowflake, the perfect cocktail of gasses to allow life to thrive on Earth or the miracle of photosynthesis which creates the oxygen we must have?

Did we create the miracle of conception and birth, the perfect balance of plants absorbing CO2 and breathing Oxygen while we breathe Oxygen and exhale CO2? It’s just too perfect to be random.

Consider this:  What is God was a just a nickname for Divine Mind, Universal Intelligence in which we live, move and have our being? What if we swam in this great Mind like a fish swims in the ocean?  What if we lived every hour of our lives immersed in God as our cells are in us?  Kind of blows your mind doesn’t it?

What if God is not our parent but the Mind of the Universe that creates all that is? This God would not punish or reward because only parents do that and God is not a parent.  God would govern the Universe by Law, both physical and spiritual.  What if we really did reap exactly what we sowed?  The Law of Cause and Effect just may be the Mother Law of the Universe!  God is the Cause and all that exists , including us, is the Effect.  What if we have had it backwards all the time?

What if life does not happen to us?  What if we happen to life? What if our thoughts, words and the choices that spring from them are the authors of our lives?

Could it be that we are the creators of our life experience, the “driving wheel” of our life?  What if we are the producer, director and principal actor in our own movie of life?

These questions and thoughts are the essence of the perennial philosophy called New Thought, Unity, Religious Science, Science of Mind and Unity.

What if Science and Spirituality are heading to the same place?  One through study of the Physical Laws of the Universe and the other through Spiritual Law?

You may live to see Science and Faith come together; we already practice these ideas every day in Religious Science and have for almost 300 years in one form or another.

What if Evolution was just God’s update system? Wow, consider that!

The Wise Counselor

Click on link above for audio version (speakers on!)

There is an art and science to being a good parent to our grown children.  Where once our word was law, now its just a suggestion.  It comes as a shock for a parent to realize that these are young men and women and it is their time to lead their own lives

There is an old saying that the parent is the bow and the child is the arrow.  If we have been good bows we will have instilled good values and hopefully good judgement in our children.

It is rather hard to tell my 35 year old, very gorgeous pharmaceutical rep daughter with the six figure salary, company car and perks to die for how to live her life.   She and her four lovely girls are doing just fine.  The best Dad can do is to love her and, if she wishes, offer wise counsel.

My middle child, lovely, rather exotic Kristen works in the Entertainment Industry (it is LA after all) for a company that handles distribution, contracts and royalties for companies like Red Box and Netflix.  She has a wicked wit and a great sense of humor.

Her little boy Sean is so handsome he might become a “Hollywood Heartthrob” someday!  With Kris you listen and then show her that you care.  She needs a good mirror and I provide it.

For a man, sons are a bit different because Dads tend to see themselves in their male children.  Evan, my youngest is in IT sales and is a bit of a geek but way taller than me and movie star handsome.  He is sometimes a bit intense like Dad and can be a goof at times but that is what makes him so lovable.  He is married to a lovely RN named Naomi and has a little boy I call Eli with curly hair and bright blue eyes…sooo handsome.

My role in this still growing family of 13 is to be a good mirror and wise counsel when they need and want it.  I quietly ask them if they are willing to live with the results of what they are saying, doing or choosing.  I show them the end of the path that they are on without judgement.  That is the role of the wise counselor.

Here are 4 Rev. Dore’ rules for adult child parenting:

1. Do not try to live your life through your children.  You have your life and they have theirs.  You are no longer responsible for their success or failure.  Give them the space to be themselves, even if that means a mistake or pothole in their path.

2. Expect that for all that they remind you of you and their Mother (or Father), that they are going to be very different from you.  You did not Xerox your children, you gave birth to them.  They are not copies of you.

3. Stay out of judgement.  We get into judgement with our children because we feel that their mistakes cast us in a bad light and that its our fault.  They are responsible for their own lives and what they do has little or nothing to do with you and I as parents.  Be a wise counselor, show them where their chosen path will lead and what the consequences will be.  Be a good mirror for them because just like you and I, they don’t see themselves as they really are.

4. Just love them!  What they really want from a parent is not advice but an ear, a hug and love when no one else will give it.  They want acceptance for who and what they are.

In fact, that is a good way to treat everyone in your life!  Until we are together again, be well and be happy!

What To Do When a Life Storm Comes

“Son, in each life a little rain must fall”.  I cannot count how many times my wonderful, very Southern mother said this to me. This happened when I came in crying from school after the other kids tormented me because of my goofy name or that I was a “spastic”.

She was telling me that this moment of anger and hurt was not the end of the world; that life has its little storms but I must keep my chin up and all will be well in the morning.  In other words “don’t sweat the small stuff….and it’s all small stuff”.

In our neighborhood of Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley lived two cast members of the Mickey Mouse Club television show.  One was Annette, she was a wonderful friend to me and we spent lots of summer days in her swimming pool talking about growing up and life.  The other cast member was famous for his long mop top and perhaps because of this he was a bully of the first order as a kid.

Every time he saw me he made it his business to beat the stuffing out of me! He was one tough son of a gun. I would run home, shirt bloody, crying and shaking from anger and fear.  Mother’s solution was to tell me to stay away from him and I tried, but to no avail.

Dad had a different solution.  He told me that the bullying won’t stop until you stand up to him. Now Dad was only 5′ 3″ tall so he knew a LOT about bullies in his youth. He said that the secret bullies never want you to know is that they are cowards at heart and feared blood and pain.  Dad’s prescription was to let the Mouseketeer throw the first punch (never start a fight but always finish it) and then I should punch him in the nose as hard as I could because noses bleed profusely without causing much damage.

I got my courage up and did it!  Dad was right!  He ran home crying his eyes out and never bothered me again.  In fact, we eventually became fast friends. We were taught to take care of ourselves and settle our own disputes in those days because it was a lesson in life.  Of course kids weren’t “packing heat” in the 1950’s!

What do we do when our personal sky darkens and the rain comes?  Here is my 3 step cure for a Life Storm:

1. Know that this too shall pass!  When the stuff starts flying we feel like our lives are over; that this is the beginning of the end.  It seems like the pothole in our path is a thousand feet deep and that we are helpless.   Remember, the only constant in the Universe is change!   This too will pass because nothing is forever. You will get through this unless you succumb to panic and lose hope….then you are done!

2. Stay out of fear!  If there were a Satan or Devil it would be FEAR.  No I don’t believe in fallen angels cast out of Heaven or Lucifer or Beelzabub.  There is ONE power and presence is this Universe and that is the Divine Mind, First Cause, The Great Architect that we nickname God.  All that exists begins in the mind of this spiritual Life Force and since we are expressions of that Life Force we create our lives in our minds in the exact same way.

Fear is the great enemy for it causes mental and spiritual paralysis.  We experience the “deer in the headlight” syndrome.  We stand transfixed with dread and terror and can do nothing to save ourselves.  There is always a solution but only a calm mind and spirit can find it.

3. Take responsibility!  Everything that happens in your life is your responsibility, which is not the same as blame or fault.  Our society is obsessed with assigning blame in every situation, which I believe is a sign of our societal immaturity.  Blame fixes nothing; it is a form of revenge taking and solves little.  We blame others in order to deflect responsibility from the real cause…. US!

Every condition or event in our lives we created in the following three ways.  First we actively created the situation with our thoughts, words and choices.  We did it and we know we did it.  Often we are rebelling from someone of something when this happens.  I call this the “I don’t give a damn!” attitude.

Second, we promoted the stuff in our life by our attitudes, words or actions that we knew darn well would lead to exactly what we are now experiencing.  For instance, you work for a company that values punctuality in its employees.  But you are late 6 times in 2 months and then feel victimized when you are fired or laid off.  Who created this?  Yes, you did.

Third, we allow stuff to happen to us by having weak personal boundaries. This is co-dependent behavior which is a classic symptom of weak self esteem.  Have you ever known someone who lurched from crisis to crisis all because they could not say no to anyone who needed help, money or just wanted to sponge off of them?  This is a very common form of creating just the life we don’t want.  Living as an enabler is like living life in a hospital emergency room.

No is one of the most important words in the English language.  Healthy people can say no without guilt if it is something they do not want to do.  You are responsible for you, no one else.  Help where you can but recognize a lost cause when you see one.

Once you take responsibility for your life you have grown up spiritually and mentally.  You are now free.  You know that you paint the picture of your life stroke by stroke with your thought, word and deed.  If you painted the picture you can change it. You are the artist.  You are free at last. What you create you can change.

This is how you navigate the inevitable storms of Life.  This too shall pass, stay out of fear and take responsibility!

Until we are together again, walk in the Light and Love of God in your coming and going, waking and sleeping.
