What In The World Is Going On Here?

To say that this is an unsettled and turbulent time in the history of our planet would be an understatement.  Hardly the worst of times as the doomsayers love to bleat, but still a time of unrest, anger, angst, fear and xenophobia.

There have been many other times very much like this in the world’s recent history.  A good example is the French Revolution’s degeneration into the bloodbath of the Reign of Terror which brought Napoleon to power promising to “make France Great Again” and bring order and peace to the nation.  He was “the Man on Horseback” as History dubs these pseudo saviors who appear just as unrest and fear are at their zenith.  2 million Frenchmen died in his endless wars.

These “men on horseback” promise glory, restoration of a “golden age” that was rarely golden and most importantly; safety and order.  20th Century examples of “men on horseback” are Vladimir Lenin in 1917 Russia, Benito Mussolini in 1921 Italy, Adolph Hitler in 1932 Germany,  Francisco Franco in Spain in 1936, Juan Peron in Argentina in 1938, and recently Donald Trump in the USA.

Each of these “men on horseback” use virtually the same language and make the same vague promises that “only they can fulfill”.  In reality, they bring only a loss of liberty and a climate of hatred and division.  “The man on horseback” solution is akin to swallowing poison to cure an head cold.

Now even the UK, a relative island of civility, has voted to leave the European Union in a burst of nationalism, fear, anger and emotion.  This will create a “little England” and destroy the global economic power of the UK and possibly the UK as we know it. Scotland and Northern Ireland  are threatening to break away from the UK, even as I write this post.  This dismembering of a great nation will leave England and perhaps Wales as a rump, rather pitiful remnant of the Empire upon which, in my childhood, the Sun never set.

What in the world is going on here?  Can we see this from a spiritual perspective? Is there no hope for our nations, our planet and our civilization?

Yes, there is hope.  This period is a bit like a case of the shingles in that it is extremely painful, hard to endure but rarely fatal.

Here is my diagnosis of the causes of this spiritual illness: 1. fear of loss of personal liberty, power and status  2. Nostalgia for the mythical country of our youth.  3. A feeling of  loss of supremacy in our nation  i.e. the angry old white men and women who want their country back, which was ever theirs only at the expense of others. 4. A feeling that things are in decline, that nothing works anymore.

This fear, unrest, xenophobia and misplaced nationalism is what has brought on the ludicrous choice Americans face in the 2016 Presidential Election.  This angst is what has brought on the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU. In recent years the UK looks more and more like the US in diversity and not much like the jolly old England of yore.

The Brits are tired of being told what they can and cannot do by an alien super-government.  By God we want our Bangers (that’s a sausage) made the way they should be, not the way Brussels decrees.  We want the UK to look English and Scottish, Welsh and Irish not Pakistani, Indian, African, Polish, and whatever.  There is widespread nostalgia for the the way it was and for a nation of rosy cheeked white folks.

Being a rosy cheeked white guy myself,  I am not unsympathetic to the wistful nostalgia they are experiencing but they did conquer half the world without so much as a “by your leave”, so now they get to live with them and are the better for it; if they only knew it.  Every savory dish needs spice and heaven knows English culture and their cuisine is often sadly lacking in spice.

Immigrants, as all Americans have proven by being immigrants or the sons, daughters and granddaughters of immigrants, refresh the tree of liberty with their energy, aspiration, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The dry cleaners that I patronize is owned by a delightful immigrant family from Cambodia.  Not only do they now own 2 Dry Cleaners but 3 restaurants; all from virtually nothing but hard work over 20 years.  They are a reminder for all Americans that the American Dream is alive and well.  Nothing is ever given,  it is the product of family pulling together and a lot of long hours and hard work.  The American Dream was never guaranteed, it was earned through blood, sweat and tears.

Take back America, Britain for the British, make the UK or America Great Again.  Keep those foreigners out!  If we listen to this cant, the American Dream will die and so will all other aspirational dreams.   Yes, you will hear this same rhetoric in every speech of the Republican Presidential nominee (sad, sad day for the Grand Old Party).

This is a sickness of the spirit and only a spiritual remedy will cure it.  It is a retreat from love, a retreat from Brother and Sisterhood to us against them, fear of loss of that which you never really had, and nostalgia for an America which was a living hell for large groups of the population who were not of European descent.

This spiritual sickness is rooted in the fear of many that the country and our lives will never be the same again.  They are right, our lives and our country will never be the same again.  It just might be better if we get out of fear and make it so.  Nothing is ever the same again.  Change is the only constant in the Universe.

The lessons of the Master Teacher are being replaced by the dark philosophy of Niche. Globalization is in peril as Jingoism and xenophobia raises its ugly head.  Love and Fear cannot exist in the same time and place.  Love is the mother of peace, liberty and unity.  Fear is the Father of hate, separation and oppression.

What will we choose?  Can we learn from similar conditions in the 1930’s or will we walk down the road to hatred and destruction once again?

The solution is not to return to the religion of Christianity but to the Teachings of the Master Teacher for the Western world, Christ Jesus.  Tolerance, acceptance, love, peace, forgiveness and empowerment of every human regardless of color, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.  That is the path to a new Golden Age, not exclusion, fear or hatred.  The solution is unity, not identity politics that divide us into warring camps.

We are all part and parcel of the Great Architect of the Universe, the Great I AM that Ground of Being that we nickname God.  We are all literally brothers and sisters and our future as a species depends on understanding and living this basic truth.

As Franklin Roosevelt so wonderfully put it:  We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Until we are together again:  Be well, think well and speak well.

Becoming a Master of the Law

Last time we talked about how our life experiences are created by our thoughts, words and actions by acting upon God’s Universal Operating System that we call The Law.   Not by whim or divine decree but by our use of the Law by our thinking, speaking and acting.  As the Bible puts it:  “You speak the blessing or the curse over your life each day”.  Better watch what you say when you get up!

Remember the wax tablet we talked about last week.  It will make an impression of a key to jail or to Paradise.  It has not volition or will.  That is a good description of the Law.  It receives the impress of your thoughts and renders them into form.

What you think is creative!  What are we but our thoughts?  When you put a thought into words you give that thought physical form and multiply its power exponentially.   The choices that you make, or fail to make, are based on these thoughts and words that become hardened into beliefs and attitudes in your subconscious mind.

The subconscious or subjective mind is the repository of everything you have stored as your truth during each minute of your life.  The ideas, attitudes and beliefs that you have allowed entry into your subconscious mind become your personality and your personal reality!   You are the guard at the gate of your mind!  You decide what to believe, how you feel about something and what you do with that information.  Its easy to see that it is very important to let in those ideas, thoughts and beliefs that serve you in creating the life you want to experience.

Cautionary note here:  Thoughts have power and the Law acts on them whether positive or negative, beautiful or ugly.  You decide whether to accept a parent’s racist views in 1954 as you were growing up. Or you can quietly believe that people are people and the outer appearance is no standard of a person’s worth. You decide to believe in a power greater than your own self or you reject The Creator and become an atheist.  You are the thinker that programs your life and blaming your life on parents, teachers, preachers or luck just does not cut it.

How do you keep unhealthy and unsavory attitudes and beliefs from taking up residence in your subconscious…..the basement of your mind? By using the one part of your mind that you can control; your conscious mind.  Your conscious mind is the greatest tool of creation that you possess.  You have the power and the permission to think any thoughts you wish.  You can enter any state of mind you desire and once in that state of mind you can begin to build any reality that you can believe as true for you and can see it as done!

No matter how dirty or cluttered your subconscious mind may be your conscious mind stands ready for a good Spring Cleaning whenever your desire for change becomes great enough to impel you to get to work changing your thinking and therefore changing your life.

It is never too late to “be transformed by the renewal of your mind” as Paul says in Romans 10:2.  It takes discipline and hard mental work to change the mental habits of a lifetime but if I can do it at 70, I will wager that you can do it too!

Think and speak of things of love, things of beauty, things of joy and things of health and prosperity and watch your life begin to bloom like an English garden in Spring.   As a man or woman thinks, so they are!

That is the essence of the Science of Mind teaching and the faith we call Religious Science.  Until we are together again, be well, think well and speak well.

God and “New Thought”

New Thought is a term given to the religious philosophy born in the 1790’s that came to full fruition in the 19th Century with the work of Phineas Quimby, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mary Baker Eddy , Nona Brooks , Emma Curtis Hopkins, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, the Founders of Unity and with the great work of Dr. Ernest Holmes in the early 20th Century; the Founder of Religious Science (The Science of Mind); Neville Goddard and many, many others.

From this flowering of New Thought arose the Christian Science movement, the Church of Divine Science, The Unity Church of Practical Christianity and the Church of Religious Science, founded by Ernest Holmes (now called the Centers for Spiritual Living)

What do these New Thought denominations have in common?  Perhaps the hallmark of New Thought is a Deistic view of the Divine.  God is seen as Divine Mind, Divine Intelligence, the Great Architect, First Cause or The Ground of all Being.  God is not your meddling mother in law, does not plan every detail of your life, or chart your future in some great book in the heavens.

No, God is the Creator of all that exists on this world and all others.  God is the author of the Big Bang, the creator of natural and spiritual law and the thinker behind all that is.  Call God the Great I AM as Moses was told in Sinai.

God’s language is mathematics, It’s nature is love and the joy of creation for creation’s sake.  God creates out of love from its own substance everything that exists including you and I.  Therefore every human being is a living expression of this Godhead.

God is not up there or over there or down here.  God is everywhere present…..all at the same instant.  As the Bible puts it so well:  We live and move and have our being within the great body of God, much as a fish swims in the ocean but is not part of the ocean.

Modern Christianity conceives God as a meddling parent and humanity as a weak worm of the dust.  New Thought conceives God as a loving creator, open 24/7 for consultation and inspiration but not the ruler of our lives.  We lead a life, we do not follow it.  We are the motive force of our lives; responsible for every thought, every word and choice.  No blame but responsibility.

We are empowered by this philosophy and this symbiotic relationship between God and humanity.  We are created by God and given imagination, will and intellect and in return God experiences the lives of its creation.  If we are the authors of our lives then we may re-write our story any time that we can muster the will, the courage and the intelligence to do so.  No victims here in New Thought.  Rather, we are magnificent creations of the Architect of the Universe.

Stay Tuned!

Next time we shall discuss the role of The Law, that gift of God that enables humanity to create whatever we can conceive.

Until we are together again, be well, be happy and listen to your inner voice, its God calling!

The True Christian according to Rev. Dore’

What is a “True Christian”?   My mind and heart tells me that a true Christian is a person who does their very best day by day to live the basic teachings of Christ Jesus.  Will he or she be perfect at walking in the “shoes of the Master”?  I would think not; Jesus did not walk His talk 100% of the time.

His judging and violence toward the money changers and High Priests in the Temple are not examples of walking the path of tolerance, love and peace.  His all too human fear in the Garden is another example of the faults and flaws in the human being that was Jesus of Nazareth.  His very harsh berating of his mother when she called him home was another example of his very real human temper. He was a man, not a God.

If Jesus could not embody emotional or spiritual perfection, how can we then expect ourselves to do so?   We may strive to get as close as we can; but we are all human.

Once lesson we all need to learn is to be more forgiving of our selves and our fellow human beings.

The True Christian lives each day understanding that judgement of your fellow human is judgement of yourself for we are all one in God and in fact.  There is no place for judgement and condemnation, gossip or innuendo in the life of a True Christian.  A True Christian is tolerant and loving but not necessarily approving of behavior that hurts, divides and degrades.  It is our right to associate with people pleasing to us but it is not our place to judge anyone.

The True Christian knows that we are One with the infinite Mind that is God, therefore each of us, being created by that Mind, are literally Brothers and Sisters in the truest sense.  The True Christian forgives even the most grievous offence and answers it with love.  Love and hate cannot exist in the same time and space and the True Christian knows this and lives it.

The True Christian knows that to resist a condition or an act is to invite it to stay.   He or She knows that when we are against something, when we protest something, march against something we are empowering the very thing we seek to destroy.   The True Christian is for all that is Good, noble, loving and joyous and against nothing.

Mother Theresa replied to an anti-war protester who asked her to head a march against War:  “I will lead a march for peace but will be against nothing.”

The True Christian cares nothing for dogma or liturgy, form and ceremony but cares deeply for his or her fellow human being.  The True Christian knows that love is the essence of God and of a True Christian.

The True Christian will turn both cheeks and offer both arms and legs to an attacker rather than strike back; for to do so begins a circle of blood and recrimination that can last for generations, rather like the Hatfields and McCoys of Southern Lore.  An eye for an eye always leaves the world blind and toothless.  There is no end, there is never a winner in this zero sum game.

A True Christian cares only for the lessons of the Christ, He or She is not defined by or believes in the pagan idea of blood sacrifice or the ancient Sumerian idea of “sin debt” that must be repaid in blood.  This idea is a nightmare of Paul’s that has no place in the True Christianity of the 21st Century.

The True Christian honors all humanity for all of us are the living expressions of God, the Architect of the Universe.  The True Christian would never disparage any man or woman for their gender, sexual preference,  their color, or their cultural heritage.

Likewise the True Christian knows that God is in each and every human born.  The True Christian knows that to look in the eyes of another man, woman, boy or girl is to look into the eyes of God.

God is all there is and is everywhere present all at the same time, every second of life itself.  There truly is “no spot where God is not”.

The True Christian never places himself above any other human, no matter what their religion or faith.  The True Christian knows that finding God is a bit like the center of town.  You can approach God from any direction, with any religion and you will find God right in the Center.  All those who truly seek God will find God.

The great thread of Truth that runs through every major religion when stripped of ceremony, dogma and do’s and don’ts is that there is a Creator of all that exists, a Divine Mind, a Great Soul, a Ground of Being, a Great Architect; call it what you will. It is the Great I AM or all that is.

This is what we believe as Religious Scientists and this is what we work toward in our Global Vision:  One world united in peace, freedom, prosperity, love and happiness.

Spirituality and Religion according to Rev. Dore’

speakers on!  click for audio version

We hear a lot of conversation about spirituality and religion these days.  Aren’t they the same thing just using different terms?  I say no!  They are as different as “Chalk and Cheese”, as my British friends would say.

Religion is an attempt by humanity to rationalize and codify the experience of the Divine that all humans are capable of.  My post a few months ago, “The Faith Chip”, discusses this human proclivity for religion and the Divine in more detail.  You will find it in the archives or podcasts section on the home page.

Religion can be a force for good when it serves as a moral floor under a culture and as a device for deepening thought and bringing meaning to life; making every day a sacred experience.  This is noble and good.  We understand that we must have some code of morality in any human culture; else we may revert quickly to barbarism.  Religion is effective at providing this code because there are rewards for adherence to the code and sanctions for breaking it.

Too often religion (Buddhism is an exception) ends up believing that its revelations of the Divine are the only right and true ones.  The result is the “my God is bigger and better than your God” syndrome.  Religion often insists that its founder, guru or saint had the one true revelation sent special delivery straight from the mouth of God.  (Christianity and Islam, in particular, suffer from this attitude of  exceptionalism).

When a God-revealed religion believes that it should be the only interpretation of The Divine it may become a scourge rather than a boon to humankind.  I have often likened religion to ice cream because most of us like it, it tastes wonderful but too much can make us very sick.  Like ice cream there are many, many flavors and it is all a matter of personal taste.  Find the spiritual experience that resonates with your unique heart, mind and soul.  That is the one for you.  Arguing about religion is about like arguing the merits of butter pecan over rocky road!  Its good if you like that flavor and not so good if you don’t.

There is no “one size fits all” where God and religion is concerned.  What would the world be like with only vanilla ice cream?  Boring and stale!  Before long ice cream would cease to exist because it would no longer satisfy.  So it is with religion.

It has been said that to kill a religion simply make it the State Church and you will kill it in 3 to 4 generations.  The Anglican Church is a perfect case in point.  It is the established by law Church of England and as a result England is perhaps the most secular country I have ever experienced.  To even mention God in public is to invite stares and dark looks!

Religion that is institutionalized and mandated is no religion at all.  Religion and spirituality are matters of the heart and soul.  They are matters of choice at the deepest emotional level and cannot be mandated by the State.

Each human vibrates to his or her own frequency so there can never be one religion for all.  We have needs that rise from deep in our emotional and psychological makeup that must be fulfilled and many use religion to fill the “hole” in their spirit and soul.  Who and what we are usually leads us to the religion that best suits our energetic signature.

Stern, judgmental people are attracted to stern, judgmental religions such as Calvinism in Christianity and Wahabism in Islam.

Live and let live, loving people are attracted to a positive Jesus centered Christianity that emphasizes the teaching of love and tolerance.  Many are attracted to B’hai or Buddhism for the same reason.   Religion is an expression of who we are from the inside out.  You need only look at the faith that fulfills a person and you have a snapshot of the personality of this person.

I am sure that is why God had nothing to do with establishing religions.  He or She wrote no Scriptures, Bibles or Korans.  These are the works of human beings having a deep religious experience.  That experience was filtered through their minds, hearts, culture and thought.  Religion is man made but Love is Divine; indeed its the essence of God.

If God made religion He or She would have written one book and made one religion for all humankind.  However one size fits all does not square with God’s gift of free will.  One religion would have negated our God- given gift of choice.  We are always at choice every moment of our lives.

Without free will we would be automatons all marching to one tune; thereby defeating the entire purpose of humanity.  We are here as living, breathing expressions of the Godhead, providing a physical expression of life for the Infinite Mind of God.  God is fulfilled though us and we through Her.

This is why Religious Scientists say that we are co-creators of our life experience.  We use the God given power of the physical, mental and spiritual faculties that we were given; conversely by the exercise of that power God can therefore experience the physical world of His or Her creations.

Imagine the thrill of God experiencing the taste of a ripe peach or the explosive ecstasy of a human orgasm!  God gives us sentience, imagination and life and we give God a very good time!

This view of the Divine is why I am a Religious Scientist.  I am a part and parcel of God, there is no separation.  I am God expressing as I write this post.  I am God expressing when I go to work.  I am God expressing when I kiss my dear wife or hold one of my grandchildren.  When you understand who you are….a living expression of God… even taking out the trash as I did an hour ago is a spiritual act.

Religion is the rules, myths and legends about God . Spirituality is God in each of us and God in action in the world working through us. Religion is parochial while Spirituality is universal.

Religion tends to separate humanity into often warring camps, each sure that its flavor of religion is correct and therefore the only true one.  Spirituality unites all humanity in the knowledge that there is a power greater than us, a Creator Spirit that is the ground of all being, the Great I Am, the Alpha and the Omega that it is in us and we in it.  Oneness then becomes a vibrant reality rather than a mere theological concept.

We are all one regardless what flavor of the “ice cream for the soul” we prefer.

Until we are together again, this is Rev. Dore’ knowing perfection in you and in your life.

The Royal Road to Health, Wealth and Happiness

speakers on!  Audio Version above

Don’t we all want to be happy?  Well, I have known some people who seemed to embrace their misery like a lover but thank goodness they are in the minority!  I believe that almost all of us on this planet want to be happy and feel good about the life we have led right up to the final day of our lives.  I want to go out like Steve Jobs: yelling “Wow, Oh Wow”!

There are two roads of life; the Royal Road and the Pauper’s Path and we may choose either one.  You see life does not happen to us; rather we happen to life!  We lead a life, we are not led by Life.  So we get to choose our lives with our thoughts, words (Words are so powerful!) and the choices that spring from them.  In fact, our lives are really just a compendium of our choices and the actions that flow from them.

To travel the Royal Road we must first understand and believe that we are the motive force of our lives and that we can create any life that we can imagine, speak of with certainty and then choose to create.

However, if we believe that life happens to us, that we are victims of Fate, Circumstance or the whims of others- then to the Pauper’s Path we shall go!  You see you cannot create anything but misery and failure if you believe that you are a pawn of Fate, Luck, God or other people.  You are merely victim of outside forces, out of control and thus can create nothing positive.

You have decided to take command of your life and travel the Royal Road.  Great!  This is the path of life that God created you to travel and the road that He/She gave you the power and tools to navigate.  But human beings are not automatons; we have free will so you can choose the Pauper’s Road of suffering, crises and pain, if you desire.  Your power operates in forward or reverse, the choice is yours!

But you may ask, why would anyone possibly choose the Pauper’s Path?  Is there some power greater than us that sets our feet on the path to desperation, poverty, illness, misery and degradation?  Is it Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub perhaps?

No, these are creatures that have never existed but fabricated to excuse a life badly lived.  There is only ONE power and Presence in the Universe and that is God, the Good Omnipotent.  So why do so many people trudge down the Pauper’s Path when they have been given the power to cruise down the Royal Road?  One reason is that they have been taught that they are weak worms of the dust and thus are powerless.  There is another reason and it’s that it is so easy to travel the Pauper’s Path, its almost the default setting for many!

In the words of the great Crosby, Stills and Nash song entitled “The Southern Cross”: we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do!  Yes, indeed, it was the easiest thing to do, just give up, let it be and take whatever comes! You can’t beat City Hall, you can’t box with God, the little guy never wins, the game is rigged, you can’t win anyway so why even try?  Thoughts like these are the speedway on to the Pauper’s Path of Life.  You are what you think you are, no more no less.

I spent way too much time in my life believing that I was “damaged goods” because I had been born with Cerebral Palsy.  I focused on my disabilities and my lack of grace, co-ordination and my weird eyes that went in two different directions.  I spent precious years on the Pauper’s Path when the truth about me was that I was a miracle child, a one in a million baby who recovered 90% from birth condition that is “incurable”.  I was given a pearl of great price but all I could see was the “bad hand I was dealt”.

I needed a good lesson in gratitude and an appreciation of the joy of a life that I had been given seemingly against all odds.  It took me until almost the age of 50 to finally put my feet on the Royal Road by at last taking responsibility for the far too many marriages, the too many careers abandoned just when success was at hand and the deep anger that erupted like Old Faithful when least expected.  In 1997 I finally gave up my crutches of “damaged goods”, anger and alcohol.

I quit smoking my pipe as well on that same day and I must say I do miss that occasionally but my dear wife Susan was worth any sacrifice and my pipe and tobacco was a small one.  Even though I am not wealthy yet, I am not famous yet, and even if neither ever comes to pass (I believe both are very close) I am happier than I have ever been.  I am now at the age of wisdom and perspective and still healthy and vigorous enough to enjoy it!

I am 70 now and what a glorious age!  I am healthy, have a wonderful head of silver hair and straight eyes (another miracle of many in my life) a cozy, pretty home on a pond and a lovely woman that is my dearest love.  I am now speeding down the Royal Road because I have finally discovered just how blessed I have always been.  I now know that gratitude is the on ramp to the Royal Road of the Happy Life.  May you cruise the Royal Road!

Gratitude is the Engine Oil, the lubricant of the Universe……Rev. Dore’ Jacques Patlian

Amazing Grace

Audio Version, speakers on click on link.

Most of us have heard the wonderful old hymn “Amazing Grace”.  It may well be one of the most beloved Hymns in both America and Scotland where the Pipers trill it at almost any occasion.   How many of us know the story behind this great hymn?

Captain John Newton was the Master of a slave ship for over 30 years; a very nasty but very profitable vocation in the 17th and 18th Centuries.  By the year 1768 he began to have serious qualms about his chosen profession.  On each trip nearly half of his cargo died of disease, starvation and abuse.  He could not close his eyes in sleep without hearing the pleas and cries of the poor unfortunates below decks.

At first he told himself that Africans weren’t like “us”, they were a lower form of humanity and really did not have souls in any event.  This was the usual apology for the transporting and keeping of slaves.  But by the time  the first rumblings of revolution and unrest began in the American Colonies in the 1770’s Captain Newton decided that he had had enough.

Fearing that his immortal soul was stained so badly that there was no hope of redemption, he left the sea and never returned.  He was sure that by his actions he was condemned to the fires of Hell for all eternity.  Thus the lyrics: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but now I’m found”; was blind but now I see.

What turned John Newton, the slaver who believed himself such a wretch that his soul was irredeemable into the man who wrote the poem and hymn that led to the abolition of the slave trade in the British Empire?  Yes, it was Amazing Grace!  Here is the rest of the story! A Sure Fire Fix for the Potholes in the Path of Your Life!

Is your life perfect?  Just exactly the way you have always dreamed that it would be?   Not so much?  Well, almost all of us have areas of our life that could use some improvement.  Perhaps its prosperity or maybe health.  Stress, worry and inner turmoil may be the problem which brings physical problems with it.

Perhaps you feel unloved and lonely and long for someone to love and understand you as a person.  You just want someone to “get you”.  What to do? How can we fix our lives quickly and painlessly in just a matter of days?

Ready?  Here is the sure fire fix for all that ails any human life.

Take responsibility for your life!  Yes, its that simple.  Here are the 3 steps to reclaiming, repairing and retooling your life.

1. Understand that blame and fault are not the same as responsibility.  You are not to blame for the shape your life is in but you are responsible!  Get over the blame game.

2. Be aware that not one person on Earth has been present every second of your life but YOU!  Therefore you are the driving wheel, the motive force of your life.  You thought the thoughts, spoke the cursing or the blessing each morning as you arose or before you went to sleep in the evening.  You either saw the good or complained endlessly of the bad.  What you think and speak is what you experience. What are we all but our thoughts, words and choices?

3. If you can honestly say that I wrote this novel, I produced and directed this movie that I call my life then you have just set yourself free.  Free at last, good God Almighty you are Free At Last.  You see, if you did it then you can change it because the ONLY person on this Earth that you can really control is YOU!

As Paul put it so well:  Think and speak only of things of good report. Thoughts are things and they are the building blocks of the Universe and of your life.  Nothing ever was made except by the thought and the Word.  God made the entire Universe by means of His thought and His Word.  As above, so below, which means that things here on Earth work by the same principles as they do in the Cosmos. You create your entire life by your thoughts and your words which create your choices and actions.

If you believe that your troubles and sorrow are the results of others then you are helpless because you can not really ever control any other being but you. With this belief that life happens to you, you live as a constant victim.  It is like spending your life in an Emergency Room lurching from crisis to crisis; powerless and depending on someone to fix you.

But if you created, promoted or allowed the mess and disarray to come into your life, then you can think a new thought and speak a new word of happiness, health, plenty and joy.  Watch your life change before your eyes!  You happen to life!  Your life is a mirror of you!

Your outer world is just a perfect mirror or reflection of what is in your mind, heart and soul.  The outer mirrors the inner you.  Change the inner and the outer must change correspondingly.  This idea is the root principle of Religious Science and the teaching of the Science of Mind.

You can heal your body with your mind and heart.  You can heal your finances with your mind and heart.  You can heal your marriage with your mind and heart.  You can heal your self esteem with your mind and heart.  You are the Doctor of your Life.   Ministers like me can teach you the techniques but you must do the work.

Nothing in your life changes until you do!  All true change is from the inside out.

This is basic stuff but it cannot be repeated often enough.  Throw off the chains of victim hood co-dependence and guilt and take charge of the most precious gift God has given you…….Your life!

Until we are together again, walk in the Light, Live in the Love and set yourself free by becoming the Master of your Life.

Turning The Page

Every year on January 1st many millions of people around the world look forward to the New Year and celebrate a new start in life;  a chance for a “do-over”.  We all start fresh, the score is 0-0 and we are filled with hope.

Many of us make New Year’s Resolutions and are sincere in sticking to them….for about 3 days on average!   Then too often we fall back into the old thinking and the old habits and nothing really changes in our lives.  Why is it so hard to change our lives?

Perhaps its because we are trying to change something outside of us called “our life”.  Life is lived within our own minds!  It does not exist except in our thinking, speaking and the choices we make. To change our life we must change our minds at a basic subconscious level and thus change how we think, speak and believe. No inner change, no life change.  Unless you change you it is just the same old same old!

Our subconscious or subjective mind is the seedbed of our reality and our life.  It is like a vast field of consciousness that influences and impels us to think, speak and act in certain ways.  Our parents, our genetic makeup to a small extent, our childhood, teachers and friends all planted seeds in the garden of our subjective mind that creates our core beliefs, our likes, dislikes, prejudices and biases and our attitudes about life, money, sex, religion, work, other people and love.

We have the power to accept or reject any and all of this programming if we have the will and the courage to do so.  How can we do this?

We change our subjective mind with our objective mind, that part of our mental makeup that we call our conscious mind.  This is where change your thinking and change your life comes in. As Paul told us: ‘think and speak only of things of good report’.  Your conscious thoughts reprogram your subconscious, indeed they are the plow that tills the soil of your subjective or subconscious.

To begin to build a new Life this January 1st, 2016 you must forget the resolutions; they are only promises you will never keep.  Instead, change your mind from the outside in by thinking about what you will allow in your life, what you deserve to have in your life and what can you believe as true about your life.  Can you have a clear and real picture of the new life that you will live beginning right now?  If not, you will never experience it.  You must see it before you can have it!

You are the programmer of the greatest computer in existence….the human mind, your mind.  Garbage in garbage out is an old IT saying.  Your job is to stop putting negative, fear based garbage into your subconscious and then watch the transformation of your life.  If you are writing a tragedy, change to a comedy or a success story. You are the motive force of your life, the driving wheel,  the author and editor in chief of your novel.

Want a new life?  You will have it the moment you change you and that only happens in your mind.  No one, not even God can do the job for you.

Many of us dream, think, affirm, pray and still never seem to see the changes in their lives that we all so desperately desire.

Why?  Because, as the great mystic Neville said: too many of us are in a state of constant construction but delayed occupancy!  Yes, we build our lives in our mind with visualization, prayer, meditation, but then we neglect to make it real by guts, willpower and intelligence.  We need to “move our feet” and take action to bring our desires into our home, our bank account and our life.

Religious Scientists don’t believe in magic, we believe in creative thought followed by directed and intelligent action.  This January 1st, begin the New Year with new thoughts only of things that you will allow in your life and the desires of your heart.  Begin the New Year speaking only of things that are good, loving and fine.  Plant roses in your mental garden and let the weeds starve from neglect.

May 2016 be the most wonderful year in your life and may this be the year that you move into your dream and live it!

The Greatest Story Never Told Part 2

It has been said that when we deified the man Jesus, we lost the Christ

It’s the Christmas Season and billions of people all over the globe are getting ready to celebrate Jesus of Nazareth’s birthday.  Presents, family gatherings, candle lighting services at church; the Christmas Story of the baby Jesus in the manger, the Virgin Mary, the 3 wise men and the shepherds all gathered to celebrate the birth of the Son of God.   Its a great story, a major part of the culture of Western Civilization.  But is the birthday of a man the real point of Christmas?

Did the Greatest Story Ever Told even happen?  Almost certainly not, according to the foremost historians and Biblical Scholars using what we have learned from archaeology, modern carbon dating and the 135 new Gospels that have been found and translated.  The story we love is a delightful legend.

What is the real magnificence of Christmas and why is it the most wonderful celebration of Love and Light on Earth?   Continue reading The Greatest Story Never Told Part 2
